Quick talk with Lostenterprises teamate Dylan Melamed

I caught Lostenterprises WQS rookie Dylan Melamed to know a litte bit more about his first year on the WQS. His main goal was to get his seeding tickets for the Triple Crown and he caught it!

Freaksurf Magazine : Hey buddy it's cool to see you back at Freaksurf Mag ! It's the end of the contest year, what do think about your first year on the Wqs ?

Dylan Melamed : I had a good time with my friends and met a lot of cool new people and became friends with guys I have looked up to, so I'm pretty stoked on my first year so far.

FSM : Did you achieve your goal ?

DM : I have achieved my goal of getting into Haleiwa and Sunset of the Triple Crown, I want to finish in the top 100 but I have to do really good in Sunset.

FSM : What is the most difficult for a rookie on the wqs ?

DM : All the traveling and then when you get to your destination, adjusting to the conditions and the competition scene because you're so jet lag.

FSM : There was a lot of young hawaiians on tour this year do you have good relation with guy such as John John, dusty, makua ...

DM : I competed with John John and dusty in the amateur contests since I was 12 years old, so I have pretty good relationship with them. Makua is a little older then me but I have gotten to know him from being on the North Shore and traveling to the same contests as him.

FSM : Dustin Barca told me that to be recognized in hawaii you need to take big barrels and to be good in fight, what is your opinion ?

DM : Standing out in Hawaii is a big part of your surfing career, getting big barrels at pipe and ripping everyday throughout the 7 mile stretch on the North Shore will definitely help with your surfing career.

FSM : I have seen a video from Makua Rotman fighting with a body boarder because he dropped in on him, have you ever been involved in such a conflict ?

DM : No

FSM : What do you need to be stronger next year ?

DM : The right equipment and just training with my coaches.

FSM : You're back home for the Triple Crown, what does this event represents to you ?

DM : The Triple Crown is very prestigious and to do good at home in these events is just icing on the cake.

FSM : A word on the Reef Pro ?

DM : The waves were really bad the first couple of days.

FSM : You're at home, what shall you do to make a results in this last event ?

DM : Make the third round or better

FSM : Do you think it's fair to have so many hawaiians in the contest ?

DM : There is such incredible surfers from Hawaii that don't get to travel around the world to make it into the Triple Crown and putting them in the contest gives them a chance to make a name for themselves.

FSM : What do you think about Shane Beshen's performance on day 1 of O'Neill World Cup of Surfing defeating Eric Geiselman with a 5"11 board?

DM : I definitely wouldn't have thought of riding a 5"11 out at 6-8 foot sunset.

FSM : A word on all those legends on the events such as Cory Lopez, Derek Ho, Shane Beshen or Sunny "the boss Garcia"?

DM : They all have there own unique styles and I love watching them in competition.

FSM : Your opinion on the new Dream Tour ?

DM : It's about time things are changing.
