
I met Owen Cavanaugh, Australia, in Hossegor. He was travelling trough europe in his painted van. He reminded me Drew Brophy and I decided to propote him though this interview for Freaksurf Magazine.
Freaksurf Mag : Can you present yourself, where are you from and where are you living actually ?
Owen Cavanagh : From Australia and living in Italy
FSM : When did you start start surfing ?
OC :13 years
FSM : What does surfing represent to you ?
OC : Lifestyle
FSM :Where can we see your art ?
OC : Spain, Canada, Italy, France and of course Australia
FSM : As an artist, who or what inspire you the most in your creation ?
OC : The Ocean and other artists
FSM : You paint everywhere, vans, Paintings, do you paint wall, skates, snowboards, surfboards...?
OC : Fridges, all using airbrushing techniques. I also do a lot of scultptures, Dolphins etc..
FSM : Have you ever been contacted by the surfing industry ? Would you be interested ?
OC : Yes I did lots of work for surf clubs, comp etc...and I'm always interested in more
FSM : Would you be interested to make some series of WCT art ( poster of the Teahupoo event ) such as Phil Roberts ?
OC : I would love to do more work like that. Phil Roberts is great. I love his work
FSM : Do you work with other artists ?
OC : Yes
FSM : What' s your relationship with pro surfers ? Do they ask you some paintings ?
OC : Yes I have had a lots of interest especially with fridges
FSM : Do you have a website ?
OC : Not now, I'm thinking of doing another
FSM : What are you doing when not painting ?
OC : Paint Luxury Boats
FSM : We can compare you to Drew Brophy even if your style is totally different, you're a painter surfer traveller in you van !
OC : I love to travel in general, especially in my van which is a great way to do art work all around Europe
FSM : A word on France ?
OC : France is great , hot waves, nice people and wonderful food and wine
